AGRINOME™ for Tissue Culture

The early success of oil palm tissue culture propagation in the 1970s has resulted in more than 20 tissue culture laboratories in Malaysia and Indonesia with more than 5 million of ramets being produced each year. The tissue culture technology accelerates the multiplication of palms with economic traits related to disease resistance and oil composition, overcoming some shortcomings faced by hybrid seed production including slow process, low germination rate and high genetic heterogeneity. The complex workflow of tissue culture covers the initiation of embryogenic callus, proliferation and maintenance of callus, initiation and maturation of somatic embryos, and lastly plantlet maturation.

AGRINOME™ for Tissue Culture digitizes and tracks the complex processes of commercial tissue culture production in real-time, by coupling barcode/RFID technologies with web/mobile application connected to cloud, and covering from the process of ortet selection to ramet formation. This digital platform improves ramet production efficiency, operational productivity and overall profitability through intensive reduction in the number of manual operation steps, availability of instant reporting and accurate data-driven decision making.

Fully digitized workflow
with end-to-end traceability.

Tissue culture involves multiple rounds of complex subculture workflow. Our Tissue Culture Tracker uses QR barcodes, RFID and mobile application to digitize and track every single important step in your routine tissue culture operation from end-to-end.

All culture vessels will be tagged with QR barcode or RFID tag allowing quick sample counting and update of subculture status by using a mobile app, barcode or RFID scanners. This will not only speed up the data recording process and promote better automation, it will also minimize the technical mistakes and enables real-time data generation.

One of the limitations in oil palm tissue culture is the limited availability of good explant, a tissue obtained from the selected ortet for clonal propogation. The explant of choice will go through an intermediae phase of callus initiation, induction to differentiate into somatic embryos followed by multiple rounds of complex subulture process until the plantlet (ramet) is formed and ready for acclimization in a nursery.

The success of the clonal propagation is largely dependent on the genetics/physiology of the starting material that affect the embryogenesis and regeneration rates which are low in general. Hence, it is necessary to track the tissue culture process from end-to-end to examine the performance of the ortent/explant and to optimize the production based on the current subculture stages/performances.

Data collection to reporting
in a single step.

With digitized data collection workflow and automated report generation, you can get highly accurate insights into your daily tissue culture statistics in real-time, such as ortet selection efficiency, contamination rate, embryogenesis rate, production count, inventory usage and worker performance. This is to ensure immediate decisions for improving operation efficiency and productivity.

With digital data collection, AGRINOME™ is able to generate automated reports based on built-in data processing and analytics pipelines. The user can select the date range (e.g. custom range, weekly, monthly, quaterly or yearly) to generate specific reports with rich graphical visualization such as general productivity, contamination, worker performance and inventory reports. This allows constant monitoring of the input costs such as chemicals, media, energy and labor.

No hassle as data compiling, manual calculation and figure generation will be automated based on user-defined requirements. The information provided by the reports would be important for informed decision to drive effective optimization on the tissue culture operation and production, for example, optimal timing informed by data to perform subculture for each culture batch/individual so that resources can be managed better.

Real-time dashboard monitoring enables the top management and managers to monitor the daily production progress by having key metrices being displayed in an easy-to-read dashboard visualization, including those total sample count, number of active workers, number of task assigned/completed/on-going, contamination rate, inventory usage and sample performances (e.g. embryogenesis, callogenesis and regeneration rates).
